The Return to the Great Reservoir

Philosophical Summary

A narrative describing how the Odùs, after their journeys through the world, returned to the whiteness of Òfún to 'wash themselves' and prepare for the next cycle of creation.

Summary

The Odus undergo a ritual purification in the celestial reservoir to reset the cosmic clock.

Interpretation

Òfún Méjì is the Odu of 'The Void' and 'The Reservoir.' It teaches that periodically, we must return to a state of 'Nothingness' (the White Cloth) to wash away the history that binds us. Renewal requires the courage to dissolve into the source.

English

After eons of creating and managing the earth, the Odus were covered in the dust of human suffering and the grime of physical existence. They returned to the heavens and sought the 'Great Reservoir' in the house of Òfún Méjì. It was a basin of pure, white light. As they stepped into the pool, their colors faded and their burdens dissolved. They emerged as clean, white principles, ready for the next Big Bang of creation. This established why Òfún is the sign of the beginning and the end.
