The Verse of the Rearview Mirror
Philosophical Summary
'The river flows forward, but its source is behind it. Divined for the one who ran endlessly into the future, only to find their destiny waiting in the past.' This verse teaches that progress without retrospection is a form of blindness.
Interpretation
Ogbè Ìwòrì (Ogbè-Wẹ̀yìn) is the Odu of 'Retrospection.' It teaches that we often miss our opportunities because we are running away from our history. The 'Rearview Mirror' is the internal capacity to examine one's past mistakes, family lineage, and spiritual debts. By 'looking back' (Wẹ̀yìn), we find the keys that unlock the doors in front of us. It warns against the arrogance of 'moving on' without 'settling up.'
