The God of Truth

Philosophical Summary

As the absolute highest enforcer of universal justice, Ṣàngó is fundamentally understood to be entirely obsessed with the strict truth. In ancient Oyo times, those who were deeply accused of highly serious crimes would be brought directly before his massive shrine. They would be forced to drink a highly specific sacred potion or swear a massive oath directly on his double-headed axe. The community deeply believed that if they lied, they would inevitably choke to death or be violently struck by a literal lightning bolt within days, proving Ṣàngó's absolute intolerance for perjury.
