In the context of Obara Meji, royalty is defined by the honesty of speech. A King's word creates reality; therefore, a lie from a King is a cosmic contradiction. This proverb teaches that to achieve the 'kingship' (success/elevation) promised in this Odu, one must master the integrity of their own tongue. Lying is the primary way a 'King' loses their mandate.
Ọba kì í púrọ́. Èèyàn kì í sọ fún ọba pé ó púrọ́.
A King does not lie. One does not tell a King that he has lied (because his word is his reality). A leader's word is the foundation of their power; truth is the crown.
Transformation of the soul begins with the alignment of the tongue.
