The Hand Rises Higher Than the Head Just to Protect It

protectionsacrificeoridevotionservice

Philosophical Summary

This proverb is a meditation on sacred service and the right relationship between the servant and the served. In Eji Ogbe theology, the hand (outward action, earthly capacity) serves the head (Ori, inner wisdom, destiny). When action rises above its station, it does so not to usurp wisdom but to protect it. The image is used to teach about Ibori (the feeding of the head) — we raise our hands in prayer not to stand over the head but to shelter it.
