The Snake and the Path of Silence

Philosophical Summary

A story where the Snake was once the loudest animal in the forest. After being mocked and hunted, it performed the sacrifice to Ìká Méjì and learned the 'Ase of Coiling and Silence.' It became the most respected and feared animal, teaching that 'Power speaks loudest when it is silent.'

Summary

From a loud target to a silent predator, the Snake's sacrifice to Ìká Méjì reveals the supreme power of silence.

Interpretation

Power is not in the noise, but in the potential of the strike. Ìká Méjì is the Odu of coiling, restriction, and internal power. It teaches that the truly powerful do not need to announce their presence; their energy speaks for them.

English

In the beginning, the Snake was constant noise. He hissed and rattled so loudly that all prey fled and every hunter found him easily. Mocked by the forest and near extinction, the Snake sought the wisdom of Ìká Méjì. After a sacrifice of cool water and snails, his voice was taken and replaced with the 'Ase of Coiling.' He became the master of the silent strike. Now, even without a voice, his presence causes the entire forest to stand still in respect.
