The Rooster's Crown

Philosophical Summary

Tells the story of why the rooster crows at dawn. The rooster was the only bird brave enough to stand in the dark and call for the sun. For his bravery, he was crowned with a red crest, symbolizing the first fire of the morning.

Summary

A story of audacity where a single bird's voice breaks the night and earns him the crown of the morning.

Interpretation

Persistence and Faith. The Rooster represents the one who stands his ground when others are silent. It teaches that leadership is not about size, but about the willingness to be the first voice to challenge the darkness.

English

When the sun first hid his face, the world was cold and the Orishas were afraid. The Eagle would not fly, and the Hawk would not hunt. The Rooster alone climbed to the highest fence. He did not know if the sun would hear him, but he cried out for the light. He did this every hour until the horizon turned red. Olodumare was so pleased with his persistence that He placed a piece of the sun's own fire on the Rooster's head. Now, the red crown signifies that the Rooster is the sun's chosen priest on earth.
