The Fire that Wouldn't Die

Philosophical Summary

A narrative describing how Orunmila used the 'Sacred Charcoal' of Ìwòrì to protect his house from the 'Spirit of Coldness' (Stagnation).

Summary

Orunmila utilizes the eternal heat of Ìwòrì to repel the freezing influence of stagnation and death.

Interpretation

Ìwòrì is the fire of motion. It teaches that as long as we keep our 'spiritual hearth' active through prayer and sacrifice, the coldness of apathy and failure cannot take root.

English

The Spirit of Coldness wandered the world, turning passion into ice and growth into stone. When it reached Orunmila's gate, it found a fire that did not smoke. Orunmila had buried the 'Sacred Charcoal' of Ìwòrì beneath his hearth. No matter how hard the winter winds of misfortune blew, the charcoal remained white-hot, repelling the stagnation and keeping the house and its inhabitants full of life and motion.
